Thurs Sept. 16, 2010

OK Donna Jean this is for you sorry I'm late reporting!! Well yesterday we went to "The Windy City of Chicago"! Beautiful city, the buildings are beautiful. We had nice weather, little windy- temperature around 78. Took one of the double Decker buses, got some great shots of going under "THE LOOP" Better duck under there! I wonder how many people have got "conked" in the head? We stopped over at Navy Pier, and had lunch at Harry "HOLY COW" Caray's Tavern. Now if you are not a "Baseball" fan you are probably saying who the hell is he!!! Very famous announcer for the Chicago Cubs, the White Sox and I think even the Oakland A's at one time, & alot more sporting events. He just passed away recently. Well his restaurant was right on the pier, along with Bubba Gumps, and alot more establishments. Glad we went to the tavern. We both ordered Harry's Colossal Dog" omg Huge Hot Dog it was good. They put a olive spread ,and a sauce they had jalapenos and a great mustard sauce, see the picture I took, not low calorie- We'll walk that lunch off and no more food.. yeah right! We walked down Navy Pier "DID YOU KNOW" the first Ferris Wheel was at this pier! Well can't remember all the facts but, this fellow called Ferris & his friend did the rest. The ferris wheel in the picture- they say is actually 1/2 the size of the origianl ferris wheel built and that each car could hold up up 60 people (I think people were smaller then) They said even at the Grand Opening they had a Band in one of the Cars..
Stained Glass Museum real beautiful, little shops, great Irish store, Well we saw alot of great buildings & sights. The city is really clean, We were expecting you know-- big city & Chicago dirty but -- nice planters with flowers. Great views. Sear's Tower WOW--- HIGH!!! We went up to the SKY DECK- Sear's Tower now known as Wills Tower little trivia--
110 Stories, 1450 feet tall and with the antenna 1730 ft tall.
Now I am not a person who likes heights, but I have to tell you this was pretty spectacular! Well I was OK until it came to the Glass Platform ....Bob pulled my hand and then the man "shoot" the picture "I DID IT"!! for about 10 seconds then I got braver and crept out alittle more and took pictures!! View was unbelievable, but it was getting cloudy and rain is coming so view not as far as can be seen. They say on a clear day you can see 4 states, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan & Wisconsin. Hard to believe it only took 3 years to build, completed in 1973. It averages a six inch sway from the "true" center -- on windy days, which is probably real bad in the winter months. And Ladies there are 16,100 windows to clean NOT!! Lot more sightseeing--
Trump Tower is in the pictures and there is a crane at the top of the building for the WINDOW WASHER!!! I hope you are a good window washer or "YOU'RE FIRED!! That would be one scary job. Also Wrigley Bldg. Chicago times, The Aqua Bldg ( which is a new bldg) Look at the water waves.... Can't even begin to show you what we saw!! Then the eventful part of our trip took place, we were looking for a restaurant we
wanted to check out thought we would find it? Not!! Well we were given the wrong directions, instead of going west on 90 he had us going east on 90, well we were almost to the "TOLL ROAD" towards Indiana when we thought we better get off the freeway.... Oh what a choice that was! We were definitely on the WRONG SIDE OF THE TRACKS!!!! We got down into the bad area of Chicago and I don't EVER want to go back!!! We were lost a good 20 min. Trying to get back to 90 but it was off the GPS DO NOT TRUST THESE THINGS! Well it was getting darker & darker and we were definitely out of our element. We were on one way streets, and then a Dead End! Well we finally found a Chicago Police Car, with 2 police officers, one who had a detained gentleman. Well Bob waved to the Police Officer and he came over to our car had a big smile on his face and said "HEY OREGON" We said "we are sooooo lost How the Hell do we get out of here"!!! He was Great! Told us we were in a very bad part of Chicago, KEEP YOUR DOORS LOCKED, YOUR WINDOWS UP & DO NOT STOP FOR ANYBODY!!!! THANK YOU OFFICER GARY!!!! Well we head back to Chicago due to not finding the restaurant-- and not going back where we were! We found a new restaurant location,(GPS, didn't learn) but do to all the construction going on in the heart of Chicago, We make another left turn(thanks to our GPS) now we are in an underground tunnel and I MEAN THIS IS OUT OF A BATMAN MOVIE!! Seriously this was one hell of an underground area only one other car, and we follow him, duh, Bob & I are DONE We are tired of being lost!!! and need some ALCOHOL!! Well we found a restaurant called Giordano's It was good but I like NY pizza better!! Bob has to experience the taste and the cheese!!!! I hope he likes it I know he will... Well we are now in Indiana. So we are officially on ESt Going to Notre Dame tomorrow. I have so many pictures for you, but can only show you a few you will love the video of going under "the Loop" I'll be back to give you more on Notre Dame
