Ok here we go. First off- Shelagh this is Mt. Rushmore! Those rocky mountains are all over this area.
What a Spectacular view! It looks different from all angles, the way the light hits it. At the entrance they have all the flags from all the states, of course we got a good shot of Oregon. We went to Crazy Horse too. That monument will take forever. It was dedicated back in 1948 and you can see they have a looooong way to go. The original sculptor passed away in 1982. He was also an assistant at the Mt. Rushmore project. The sculptor was Korczak Ziolkowski. (He's not Indian) His family has taken over he had 10 kids and 7 of them continue to work on it. They said they take no federal funding, they rely on donations. Oh well they may finish sometime in the next 50 years, maybe they should get some money from the Lakota Tribe.
We went back into Keystone for dinner tonight. Lots of shops & restaurants. We saw the train we went on yesterday and took some shots of them going by us. On our way back we passed by Mt. Rushmore and got some pictures from the road it was in the shadows, looked really neat. There is also a place t pull over where you get a profile picture of George I will put those on here too! Well we enjoyed visiting the boys today, Been a long day. Oh just a couple more things the sculptor is buried at Crazy Horse monument, he built a tomb, Kind of a wacky guy. When they showed pictures of him in the earlier days he was real clean cut, and he turned into Grizzly Adams...Ha Ha Ha It was a good day!!!! Ron our thoughts & prayers are with you and hope you are feeling better real soon Good night!!!!!
Wow! What can I say! It's the real thing. Luv ya, She & E
