Friday 11-5 & Saturday 11-5

Elvis has left the Building!!!! Elvis 75 Years!!! We had a great time at Graceland Mansion on Friday. We just walked next door to purchase the tickets then the shuttle took us across the street. Quite a place!!! The only place that you are not allowed access to was the upstairs, their private quarters. The rest of the home is pretty unbelievable. The colors are bright and bold but done in good taste for that time era. No flash photography is allowed so some of my pictures were kind of dark. So many displays cases of his clothes(and he did love his clothes!) He purchased alot of his outfits in his early days down on Beale Street in Memphis, which would have been unheard of, at least for for a white man, But Elvis was his own person and loved the colors and styles. He was a person whom I don't think we will ever be able to compare to for a Very Long Time. He is a legend! His music not only means alot to his generation, but will at some point carry over to other generations. I saw this yesterday, young and old, foreign and American. His fan base is HUGE. There are sooooo many gift shops and they have everything you could imagine. And every exhibit you go into you come through another gift shop and they are all different.
Did you know....that Elvis was a twin. We did not know that. Elvis was the second born, his older brother Jessie was stillborn. A marker is placed at Graceland in his memory. Elvis, his parents, and grandmother are buried at Graceland. After Elvis's death, Vernon Presley,( Elvis's dad) obtained special permission from the city and had Elvis and his mother moved to Graceland. Media Hype, fans, tabloids were crazy and was causing a huge problem for the cemetery staff and Mr. Presley Sr had to seek security for the gravesite, the only logical answer was to re-locate.
The Mansion has alot to show and it took us about three hours to do the whole tour. The Trophy building , Racquetball Building which has the piano he was playing the day he died. The exhibits all show some type of clothing from famous concerts, and you should see the records... the walls are lined with them.... gold, platinum, & soooooo many of them it is unreal! What a shrine!
The rooms are all a very distinctive style reflected Elvis in some way. He bought Graceland just after his 22nd birthday for $100,000.00 (1957)-pretty amazing.
The music rooms, dining room, jungle room (very interesting), TV room/pool room (the ceiling was very unusual all material like a paisley print), patio & Pool area. There is also Elvis's car museum lots of Rolls Royce's & Cadillacs, and he had alot of toys from Harley's, go carts, golf carts, three wheelers, snowmobiles, and the list goes on. You just have to see it to believe it.
Today- -Saturday we went to Beale Street, all the Blues Band Bars & Restaurants. We went to the Rock & Soul Museum. Lots of great music. No pictures from this though, they came out to dark due to No Flash and the display cases reflect way to much light.
Weather was beautiful today about 65 and nice sunny skies. We are back at the RV now and tomorrow is rest day. We are leaving on Monday for Arkansas not much to see there. We are only stopping over. So we gain another hour tonight set you clocks back!!!!!!! And Enjoy Graceland and Elvis's home....
